Another Rockie Nod for CFC Media Lab Alumni

The newest project by CFC Media Lab Alumni, Joan Prowse and John Bessai (CineFocus), Greenheroes, receives a nomination for the 2010 Inaugural Banff International Pilots Competition (2-5 minute category) at the Banff World Television Festival. Greenheroes is a webchannel dedicated to saving the planet one story at a time.

Winners of the Pilot Competition will be announced during the 31st Banff World Television Festival, June 13-16, 2010.

Greenheroes will be launching in June 2010. In the mean time, you can check out their BLOG.

CFC Media Lab Alumni Nominated for a Rockie

Congratulations to CFC Media Lab Alumni, Evan Jones and Victoria Ha, whose digital media production company, Stitch Media, has been nominated for a Rockie at the 2010 Banff World Television Awards in the Original Online Programs category for their weekly web-based video series, Saving Penny. Also nominated is the web series developed through the CFC’s TV Pilot Program, My Pal Satan.

The Banff World Television Awards will be held June 13-16, 2010.

HorizonZero Takes Part in CODE

The Banff New Media Institute’s multimedia web magazine HorizonZero is an interactive web production that released 18 issues between 2002 and 2004. A new issue of HorizonZero launched yesterday with the generous support of CODE: the Cultural Olympiad’s digital edition. CODE stakes out a space in the digital realm where audiences and artists can connect, create, and collaborate.

Featuring work by Stephen Kovats, Louise Poissant, Zainub Verjee, and Caroline Langill,
Issue 19: BRIDGE is a space for you to explore and interact with the idea of bridging.

We’re looking for stories about how the Centre has affected your career or your life — whether you have come through our doors as an artist, a business leader, or a mountain enthusiast.

We’ll include submissions in a new alumni section on our website. And, we may feature one of them in our upcoming online version of Inspired magazine to be launched next month.

The Banff Centre is calling for applications for their Writing With Style and Self-Directed Writing Residencies.

Writing With Style: Amidst a diverse community of writers, you will encounter new ideas and gain confidence in your own style and voice, while shaping and editing your work-in-progress under the guidance of an experienced writer and editor. The program offers a variety of activities designed to maximize the artistic growth of each writer.

Self-Directed Writing Residency: Self-directed writing residencies provide time, space, and facilities for individual research, editing, and manuscript development. Writers structure their own time, and are free to maintain privacy or to engage with other artists and activities at The Banff Centre.
