Common Pulse – Art and Media Festival!

Citizens of the Digital Age, join the beat of Common Pulse, an art and media festival celebrating and exploring new ideas in media, technology and society.

Common Pulse: A weekend long media art extravaganza in rural Durham (June 10-12, 2011)

Immerse yourself in cutting edge performances by world music ensemble, Eccodek, Montreal’s freestyling sonic chameleon Alexis O’Hara and our own musical comedy duo Parsons & Morel (aka The Funny Ones). Engage with media art exhibitions that interact in unexpected ways, featuring CFC Media Lab alumna, Isabella Stefanescu and Steve Daniels, as well as our five artists-in-residence Ken Gregory, Laura Kikauka, Karo Szmit, Jessica Field and Andrew McPherson. (The five will be here creating new work from May 19 to June 10.  They’ll be giving talks and hosting hands-on workshops during that time.)

Participate in an ongoing, three-day dialogue with over a dozen other artists and researchers from across Canada and beyond. In the Common Pulse Symposium we’ll be looking at how media is reshaping our culture and ourselves: how consumers are being transformed into producers, how private citizens are adopting public personas, and how ideas evolve in an era of file-sharing, sampling and open source

COMMON PULSE will present a forum for presentations and discussion during a two-day symposium. Eight artists and curators including David Clark, alumnus of the CFC Media Lab, Martha Ladly, faculty at CFC Media Lab, and Michelle Kasprzak, former Research and Technology Manager at the CFC Media Lab will be invited to present their experience creating work in the context of university research.  For more details please visit their site: http://www.commonpulse.ca/symposium.php

Common Pulse is set in and around the Durham Art Gallery, only two hours from Toronto. The festival is a collaboration between the Gallery, the GIN Mill Collective and OCAD University.

Seeking Visionaries for The Delphi Survey

The Delphi Survey
Calling all industry professionals, media experts and “pro ams” with experience/expertise in publishing, music, broadcast, online, mobile, news, film, and all of the emerging forms which cross these traditional boundaries, to share their vision of the future of media, and to explore the many uncertainties which will shape that future.

2020 Media Futures (2020mediafutures.ca) is an ambitious, multi-industry strategic foresight project designed to understand and envision what media may look like in the year 2020.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE…

The Delphi Survey! This is a two-round online survey, designed to seek consensus from subject-matter experts (such as yourself) on issues which are unsettled, unpredictable, or uncertain, but yet could have major impacts on the media landscape of the year 2020.

Round two of the survey is open today! It will only take about 30 minutes to complete.

Note: The Delphi survey will not ask you to recount your perspective on past or current events, but will capture your views on where you think things are going.

By participating in 2020 Media Futures, you’ll be contributing your vision to an innovative research project which will help build capacity and drive innovation in Ontario’s Creative Cluster by helping companies and organizations to ‘future-proof’ themselves, preparing for opportunities and challenges brought on by the rapid evolution of media.

Through the practice of “strategic foresight,” the project will enable stakeholders to better manage uncertainty through deeper understanding and anticipation of change.

If you know of others who you think might be interested in participating in the Delphi, please pass them the link: 2020mediafutures.ca/delphisurvey
